With so many students starting back at university there is a lot of uncertainty and anxiety around how COVID-19 will impact their experience, personal health and lifestyle. Both companies understand the benefits that the gaming community brings to individuals during these tough times and are therefore motivated to ensure that the student community is well-connected and healthy.
Gscience and The NUEL can announce a long-term partnership that will include:
- Content around optimising health and in-game performance.
- Gscience practitioners sharing insights and practical strategies.
- Research into the UK grassroots community to better understand problems and build better solutions.
- Esports performance coaching support for The NUEL’s competitive teams.
- Access to the Gscience athlete monitoring system Optimal.
The first event of this partnership will be a live broadcast taking place on Wednesday 14th October at 15:00 BST, where expert Gscience practitioners will discuss a range of practical topics aimed at helping student gamers during the upcoming NUEL season, as well as fielding questions from students. The health and wellbeing of gamers is more critical than ever and must be prioritised. Gamers are experiencing high levels of burnout, injury and health problems. Esports professionals are reaching breaking point with super-stars Uzi and Gla1ve retiring due to health issues. Gamers continue to buy into the gaming ‘grind culture’ as they look up to professional players as key role models. COVID-19 has compounded these issues further with students having to self-isolate away from friends and family; leading to deterioration of mental health and an unbalanced connection with the digital world.
“We are very excited to be working with The NUEL. Now more than ever Gscience is committed to working with others in the industry to create a healthier and happier ecosystem for gamers. Given that Josh and I are two Loughbrough Graduates it's great to be able to give back to the student gaming community.”
Ryan Scollan, Co-Founder and CEO of Gscience
“Sports science has incredible potential to support performance, health and wellness in esports – but is often beyond the reach of students. Gscience is one of the most exciting companies operating in this space, so we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with them in a range of ways to support student gamers.”
